Who we are
Urban Decay Music is a small online record store based out of a bedroom in Yorkshire. We specialise in innovative new electronic music from small independent artists/labels. Our policy as of 2011 is to largely avoid distributors and get our stock direct from artists and labels.
We believe some of the larger distributors focus too much on sales and won't stock/press a product that may not sell. Obviously, in the current financial climate, it's in a distributors interest to make as much profit as they can. However, we believe this stifles many artist's creativity. The 2 goals of Urban Decay Music are:
- to provide good/innovative new music from small independent artists/labels
- to give new music the respect it deserves and provide valuable physical (vinyl and CD) products for collectors, djs and music lovers...
History
Urban Decay Music started on the 4th June 2004 and was originally intended as an outlet for lesser known electronic music artists. Urban Decay Music was the first shop to stock Raggacore and Flashcore in the UK. In 2007/2008, sales took a tumble and I decided to wind down the store with the intention of closing it down for good. However, I couldn't face losing all the work I'd put in, so I now run it as a hobby. As I no longer need to make a living wage from record sales, I can focus on why I started the shop in the first place; my passion for exciting new electronic music.
